the white rabbit gallery

Hey guys !!! It's me again - sorry for the massive delay between this and my last post :( school and everything has been so hectic I've had no time! But now it's officially the holidays and I'M FREE!!
So many exciting plans for the weeks to come and I can't wait for it all to finally happen.
Hopefully I'll be able to post a couple more things before I leave for overseas about the stuff I've been doing.

To the point...
Yesterday was the first day of the summer holidays! Me and my friends Tara, Fiona and Kath decided to begin this beautiful period of freedom with a trip to the city to see the White Rabbit Gallery. We've all been wanting to visit the lovely gallery for a while (especially Tara and Fiona, who discovered it about half a year ago!) and we finally got to do it!

The White Rabbit gallery is home to one of the world's largest contemporary Chinese art collections which is really amazing, seeing as I myself am half-Chinese (however being sadly illiterate in regards to my Chinese history!)

There was a new exhibition there, titled 'Serve the People'. It focused on the Chinese Cultural Revolution from 1966-76 and many of the artworks were so beautiful in conveying the different artists' views and messages, especially about a time where art was completely banned in China.

I loved the art so much and much to my surprise, I found a great appreciation for it even though I don't consider myself an artistic person at all! Maybe it was the fact that it related so strongly to my culture..?

Some photos from the gallery..

There was the CUTEST gift shop at the front of the gallery, all the gifts were on little trolley-things like this!

Probably one of my favourites (below): this tapestry was so beautifully intricate, I stared at it for about 10 minutes!

Another one of my favourites (below): the artist had decided to contrast the deep meaning of the Buddha motif with the superficiality of the modern world, making the Buddha and its background out of child's stickers, notes and bits of paper.

My ALL TIME FAVOURITE artwork below (I have no idea why.. it's a pair of underwear for goodness' sake!): this piece stood out to me so much I really have no idea why... I think it was the gorgeous colours.

After walking through all three levels of the exhibition we decided to get a drink from the tea house adjoining the gallery. It was the prettiest room and I loved the vast collection of lanterns hanging from the ceiling! Took about 329084 photos of it, as usual.

We all combined and bought a carafe of this gorgeous iced lychee tea (we were so excited to see 'lychees' in the jug until we realized it was actually all ice..)! Savoured every last drop of it, it was amazing!

We decided to go to Chinatown to have Japanese but proceeded to get (extremely) lost on the way (pretty sure we walked like 5km oh my) but it was all forgotten once we got the food! With Tara's recommendation I tried eel for the first time in my life hahah I loved it !

It was quite lovely to hear a lady waiting in line behind us say to her friend, "They're like a group of models!"

We then walked down to the markets and we all got a matching Chinese halter top, we were all so happy! :') Can't wait to wear it!!

The Queen Victoria Building was resplendent as usual and I had so much fun walking around and looking at all the gorgeous Christmas decorations. :)

What I wore today:
  • white platform sandals from online
  • 90s sportsgirl dress from my mum
  • dad's old oversized denim jacket
Hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed that day! Sorry if I rambled a bit, not really used to this blogging stuff D:
